I am participating in the ProBlogger 31 Days to Build a Better Blog Challenge and today is the first day. The homework assignment for today: create your blog’s elevator pitch. So here we go!
Let me start with the Tagline for my blog:
Interactive. Multimedia. Expressions. To learn more about this tagline read my earlier blog post about its meaning.
Elevator Speech for D-Mac’s Blog:
D-Mac’s Blog was created to share knowledge, experience and inspiration with the business professional and everyday web surfer alike through the use of multimedia, interactive expressions. If you become a reader of my blog you can expect topics that include: social media tools that can increase online relationship building, product reviews with recommendations, and online/offline resources that can add a new way of thinking to your everyday life. You can also expect an “off the wall” post every now and then just to keep things fresh.
If this sounds like something you would be interested in, then you might want to check out derekmcclain.com
So, there it is. What do you think? If you have an elevator speech I would love for you to share as well.

Go ahead…do a Google search for your name.
Now ask yourself: Are you happy with the results? Were there any relevant results?
Okay, now Google search your company’s name. Ask yourself the same questions.
Question: What is the point of this excercise?
Answer: To many people this is who you are, like it or not.
- When you apply for a job odds are the HR
department will do a Google search and review the results as part of a background check.
- When a potential customer is deciding if they are going to work with you or not, they are probably going to do a Google search on you and your company.
- People even do a Google search before they decide if they really want to be your friend or go on a date. Another form of a background check.
Unlike keywords such as “cell phones” or “cars” your name and company name are something you can realistically own (in most cases). This is very important to your brand and your company’s brand. It is also very interesting to note how many of your search results are social media profiles. In my particular case, Facebook, LinkedIn and Smaller Indiana are all on the first page of results. This is an important extension of extension of your name and brand as well.
So ask yourself: Do you really own your name online? If you do not or if you are unhappy with the results – what are you going to do about it?

There are several notes going around on social media networks encouraging people to share random facts about themselves. I think this is a great exercise and would challenge anyone reading this to do so.
Here are 7 things you might not know about me:
1. I am forever thankful for my family, friends, co-workers and significant others.
2. I am famous for putting Rap and Country music on the same CD.
3. I am obsessed with reality TV- all of it.
4. I am trying not to eat out as much and cook more often (this has been an ongoing struggle for a few years now).
5. I sometimes dip my pizza in applesauce- it tastes good, try it.
6. I find exercise to be a great way to reduce stress.
7. I love lists, bullets, and numbers.
