My name is Derek McClain, but you can call me D-Mac.
Where I Work and What I Do
Professionally, I am employed at Driver Solutions as a Social Marketing Manager. My main responsibility is to manage all online social properties for Driver Solutions to increase awareness, monitor reputation, and drive online leads. I create and execute new online marketing campaigns on a regular basis to make these things achievable. You can check out my Driver Solutions blog here.
I am fortunate enough to absolutely love my occupation. Each day I wake up excited to go to go to work and I feel truly blessed because I know that is not the case for many people. I have been in the Internet/technology/marketing field for over 5 and a half years now. It amazes me how much the industry has changed so far and I know it will continue to do so as technology evolves. Staying in the loop on these changes allows me to grow both professionally and personally. My mission in life is to continue to improve myself every day and I appreciate that my occupation allows me to do so.
What I Do Outside of Work
Outside of work I spend a lot of time with fiancée, my family and those closest to me. I really like this video blog post by Kyle Lacy over at Brandswag which pretty much sums up the importance of family and great friends. Simply put: Eventually all social media, web sites, and this virtual world we have created will disappear. It is very easy to get caught up in all of that and forget about what matters most and who will truly be there for you- your family. I am blessed to have a great family.
Okay, so now that we got all of the serious stuff out of the way.
I really enjoy blogging and I am glad you took the time to come hang out. I have been blogging for awhile now and have found it is one of the best ways to share your thoughts on specific topics and reach a large number of people of whom you can really help. I started blogging to learn more about it (I think the best way to learn is to actually do something) and increase the awareness of my name on the social media scene. I have seen great results which is always encouraging and I am also noticing another very important thing- I am actually helping people. This has been very rewarding for me. Blogging has also allowed me to connect with so many people that I never would have otherwise known – which has been one of the most unexpected surprises.
I also enjoy exercising because it helps keep my life balanced and relieves stress. I also am all about going to see the latest movies, watching reality TV (I love it ALL), listening to music and playing the Nintendo Wii.
So, there you have it. The real person behind D-Mac’s Blog. It’s always a good thing to add a HUMAN element online.
